AISI 4130
ASTM A-29, ASTM A-519, API 6A, API 16C
GENERAL SCOPE:
4130 is a low alloy steel that is commonly used in the oil patch and wellhead applications. It is a heat treatable alloy steel that contains nominally 0.30% Carbon, with Chromium and Molybdenum as the primary hardening elements. Similar to alloy 4140 which has a higher carbon level giving 4130 improved weldabilities but at the expense of through thickness strength.
The popularity of this grade stems from its ability to be easily welded while maintaining good strength and impact properties.
